Hi! I'm Pragun. I'm a React dev using Twitter ๐Ÿค for quite some time now.

Twitter is extremely underrated as a professional networking platform. It brings you to the breeding ground for new ideas and opinions by the very best in the industry.

But, if you're just consuming content, you're not utilizing Twitter's full potential.

Here's how you can become a 10x developer with the help of Twitter:

  1. Follow the right people.

Instead of following celebrities, follow people who are actually worth their salt: i.e. people who are actually working towards a project, side hustle etc. Remember the golden rule: no. of followers doesn't equal experience and/or mastery.

    โœ… builders, coders, workers

    โŒ celebs, politicians

  2. Learn to network with friendships.

Interact with the minds you think you can learn a lot from, like people who are an authority in the field you worth in. They don't even need to be hot shots - if someone is making projects and building stuff, you can learn from them.

Twitter can be your virtual social group and help you make like minded friends.

โœ… caring about learning from great people

โŒ obsessing over follower count and/or account reach.

  3. Collaborate.

Seek feedback, and give feedback/help liberally. This will not only help you get better, but also improve your interaction skills with others.

Colleges are beneficial because of the peer and alumni networks. With Twitter, you can leverage a much better, and more accessible network.

โœ… actively replying to others with solutions and suggestions

โŒ being passive and only reading others' tweets.

  4. Build in Public.

Building in public brings accountability for your side projects. That not only gets potential users on board, it allows you to be more consistent and motivated with your efforts.

โœ… documenting your side projects as you work on them, learning in the process

    โŒ making intermittent announcements

One more thing

make sure you don't get into the 'content creator' trap. That meaning content for the sole purpose of getting followers and reach on twitter. Become a good coder, not a creator.

And focus on using Twitter as a tool for getting better at your craft - aptly summarized with this tweet:
